Say Hello to Kurt Ward, this week’s Face of Braselton & Hoschton!

Now in Kurt’s own words……Being born at Emory hospital, I am a lifetime Georgia resident. Tamara and I married in 2009 and moved to Braselton in 2010, hoping to raise a family.  In 2013, we were blessed with twin boys that are now 12 years old. Our boys are excellent students who love playing all kinds of sports and being involved at church.

Q: What do you do for a living and what do you like most about it?

I began my own law practice in 2007. I remain grateful for each client that allows me to assist with Estate Planning and Business Administration / Litigation. I enjoy practicing law because it allows me to help individuals and business owners with matters important to them.

Q: What advice would you want to give or leave with people? Or , If you could go back in time to give yourself some wisdom, what would you say?

Our boys get this advice quite often… Discipline yourself or you will be disciplined. Respect is a reciprocal principle. God has a plan for your life, and you are accountable to God.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

Wow! In five years, our boys will be driving and possibly leaving home. It’s hard to imagine that lifestyle when we are so involved in their life at this time. Hopefully, Tamara and I get more time to connect with friends, travel a bit, and continue serving in our community.

Q: If reading for pleasure, what do you like?

On the day-to-day, I read for a living. Pleasure reading is often smaller excerpts from sources like Kiplinger, scholarly articles, and business leaders.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

We own some land in North Georgia where I hope to set up a fishing camp that would let me have a nearby getaway. I’d love to have some time to get up there and progress on that project.

Q: What is the most beautiful place in the world you have already visited?

Tamara tells me about Italy. Maybe we will get there as empty nesters. For now, we are more local-minded with driving destinations.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

Sarazen Grill is almost a second officers for me because of convenience and the calm atmosphere. I’d have to consider Dan Cathy, Tim Perry, Simon Sinek, Dansby Swanson, and Wes Johnson for all kinds of reasons. But, I’d pick my best friend from college – Dale Campbell because we rarely get to see each other, and he will forever be a close friend.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

Sarazen Grill, Revolving Sushi, and we might order from Papa Johns for the boys.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

2010

Q: Who, in our community, do you think is happy and positive and would be a great next interview for this project? This person will be your nomination!

Pam Estabrooke has an exciting opportunity ahead as the Chairman of the Board for our local charter school.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

I was able to volunteer at Eagle Ranch for several years. I’m excited Eagle Ranch expanded to offer counseling to local families, but I miss coaching triathlon with athletes that lived on their campus.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

Braselton’s connectivity is unique with the Life path. I’m grateful for the businesses that invested into them, so I try to be a patron for those businesses.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

I typically watch sports or the History channel with my son.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I’m essentially self-taught on construction matters, but my Dad gave me a lot of opportunity to learn.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

Time spent with my wife and kids.

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?

Our kids control the music, but I do enjoy Willie Nelson.

Q: If you were given ONE EXTRA HOUR every day, and you could not use it for sleep, work, or with anyone else, what would you use it for?

Reading

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

Finishing an Airstream renovation.

Q: Favorite month? Favorite holiday? And the absolute best single day on the calendar?

Tamara plans more fun outings than I do, so her birthday is often fun for both of us.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

Fun, Food, Faith
